The Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough is pleased to announce a $25,000 contribution to “Light the Way to $160K”, a campaign to raise funds to create an opioid response hub at 220 Simcoe Street. The contribution comes from the Community Foundation’s 2040 Fund.
Since the Consumption and Treatment Services Fund was launched in November 2020, which eventually dovetailed into the Light the Way campaign in September 2021, the Community Foundation has played a vital role in bringing together over 100 donors including four major donations from funds held at the Community Foundation.
The Community Foundation understands that the opioid crisis is not just a downtown issue or solely a Peterborough issue. Addiction is not a choice. It is a societal issue that we, as a community, must proactively act on with compassion. The Opioid Response Hub will provide necessary services including counselling, programming, and housing support for the people in our community who need it.
All the raised funds, including donations over the $160,000 target, will be directed to renovate and equip the 220 Simcoe Street site to respond to the opioid crisis in our community. The Opioid Response Hub will provide a space for organizations such as Fourcast, PARN, the 360 Degree Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic (NPLC), Peterborough County Paramedics and the Mobile Support Overdose Resource Team (MSORT) to provide wraparound services and supports.
